Join two impassioned adventurers with uniquely opposite perspectives as they explore each of the 391 destinations of the National Park Service. Together Tom & Laura will follow their “Passport to Your National Parks” guidebook collecting cancellations stamps across the USA on one extremely extended road trip.

Our show is not just about the parks, the guidebook or the road trip but about the people we meet along the way and taking advantage of the opportunities they present.

We have found that The National Parks are great places to meet interesting people that have a passion for life. Often, these people want to help to educate and inspire others to have a passion for adventure, the environment, the outdoors, culture, history, cuisine and creating new friendships.

We seek these people out during the course of the day and allow them to guide us on our explorations of the park and surrounding locations.

If somebody suggests we go somewhere, do something or try something new, well we have a rule that says we have to go check it out.

So let’s see where the road takes us!

Laura Wehrmeyer & Thomas D. Whitmire

Laura Wehrmeyer
“Sometimes things move more towards class and culture like with fancy food ‘n wines, authentic music, and five star accommodations. That is not my thing, but Laura loves to wine and dine, so I let her take the lead when it comes to sophistication.” - Thomas D. Whitmire (Host)

“Hello, I’m Laura Wehrmeyer

I’ve spent the last few years traveling the world, seeking adventure, while enjoying first class hotels, five star restaurants and the finer things in life.

As an uptown girl, raised in the big city, I grew up to be a classically trained opera singer and amateur chef with a quick sarcastic wit and a love of life.

As a musician and a cook, I strongly believe that wherever you go, if you know a little bit about the music and a little bit about the food, then you're well on your way to understanding what the people and the place are all about.”

Thomas D. Whitmire
“Sometimes the activities at a destination involve action sports and athletics. I let Tom lead the way for those activities. That’s not always my idea of a good time, but I love joining Tom to make fun of him as he tries them all.”     - Laura Wehrmeyer (Host)

“Aloha, I’m Tom Whitmire

I have dedicated the last few years traveling the country looking for adventure, eating only when necessary and sleeping out of my truck or on an inflatable mattress, all while living on only the essentials.

As an outdoorsman, raised in a small town, and spending my summers living in a log cabin, I grew up to have an adventurous outlook on life.

As a fearless sportsman, I believe that to really experience a destination you need to hike it, bike it, boat it, climb it, and camp it .If you don’t know what to do next, ask someone, and do that.”

Together

Together we are compromising our way across the country.

Like real couples, we do not always like to participate in the same things. We do, however agree at times to try out new experiences that our partner suggests.

On occasion, we even split up, to find our own taste, of a single place, in our own style.

We are real people, and together we will show you the real side of travel. We are not hosts, as much as we are travelers, turning to the camera and just saying what it is that is on our minds at that moment.

Because this is a real relationship we make real compromises to keep everyone happy and entertained. If we camp one night, then we stay in a bed and breakfast the next. If we hike a trail, then the next tour we will take a jeep ride. If we eat fresh fish over the fire, the next dinner will be a Surf & Turf from the lodge. I’ve left Tom behind so he could take a four day hike over glaciers while I got a spa treatment on the other side of the park with four new friends in the lodge.

We feature two completely different perspectives of the same park using two opposite points of view.

A husband can get excited about sporting experiences at a park while his wife gets excited about shopping experiences. They may realize they can share a vacation together where they spilt off during the day and come back together a night.

The History

Tom and I met at a bar in Washington DC. Our first conversation involved tator tots. After an hour of talking we realized that we had only three things in common. We both liked oatmeal, we had seen Wayne’s World the movie and I don’t even remember the third. What a perfect combination I thought…two people who travel together and have nothing in common except a love for finding adventure. Tom gave me quite the look when I blurted this out. I did not know at the time he had just graduated from the Travel Channel Academy. I found out a moment later that he had let that experience go to head a little bit too much. He started pitching me the show idea right there in the bar. After another cheese-covered basket of tator tots, my favorite thing besides the beer at the Quarry House Tavern, I was sold.  Nine days later Tom brought a crew of two cameramen out to DC and we filmed for all of the 15 hours I could afford to spare. I had just signed an agreement to be the leading lady in the Phantom of the Opera up in Baltimore. Considering I had never seen him in daylight until we started shooting we managed to have a blast.

We are just friends and are not involved, but could be!
Hmmm, that might be a good reason to watch!

When I (Tom) came to the Travel Channel Academy it was just one stop I made as I was traveling the country on a Quest. I left home with all possessions packed into my Suburban and was on a road trip to explore all 391 locations of the National Park Service. It was not until Michael Klein spoke about what the Travel Channel was looking for, and what it was missing, that I had my realization. The Travel Channel was looking for me. It immediately hit me that my life’s quest captured on camera would fill that need for adventure the Travel Channel is lacking. I would say it’s an impassioned insider with a lust for life mentality that wakes up to take classes on Travel Journalism every morning, not from a hotel bed, but from an inflatable mattress in the back of his suburban as it is parked in the parking structure of the Holiday Inn. I was already living the life so all I needed to find was someone willing to share the experiences with, and the people to film it and put it into reality.
